The End of the Old Self
• Series: Necessary Endings
Rev. Tania Dozeman, preaching Discussion Questions: Tania talks about her experience in the big box store and leaving and feeling “less than” when she was doing just fine before she walked in. Does this ever happen to you? Where and when do you get messages that you need to buy a product or change something to be “more than” Read 2nd Corinthians 5:17-21. Tania mentions that to share the forgiveness (mercy, love, and grace) of Christ, we need to experience it in our being as well as understand it intellectually. Do you agree or disagree with her? Why? In the NRSVUE translation that was used on Sunday, the word reconciling shows up five times in four sentences. What does that word mean to you and why? Where do you hope and pray for reconciling in the world? The focus statement for this sermon is: Embracing our identity in Christ involves forgiving ourselves—letting go of past mistakes, hurts, and regrets—so we can fully step into the new life and freedom offered through God's grace. What are your first thoughts when you hear this? Forgiving oneself is hard. Do you have any tips or strategies you can share with your group to remind yourself that you are forgiven?
