Ephesians 4:31-32 Discussion Questions: The sermon starts with, “It is our continued hope and prayer that here, in this time of reflection, song, worship, and the spoken Word, you may be touched by the vibrant presence of God beckoning you, prompting you, and nudging you to grow and thrive among us. While it is essential to dwell in the bask of God’s love, comfort, and mercy, we are also tasked with stretching ourselves to grow in Christ’s likeness all the days of our lives. This is the calling from the moment we own our faith for ourselves, like our three confirmands did last week, to the final chapter and days of our lives.” When you come to worship, what do you come seeking? If you could go back to the day you committed to following in the way of Christ, what words of wisdom would you say to your younger self about the journey? Tania wears a backpack of stones for part of the sermon. Has there ever been a time that you have carried something weighty and can recall the feeling of having that weight removed? What were you doing, and where were you going? Two different scripture verses are used to explain God’s goal for us: maturity as a Christ follower (Ephesians 4:13) and abundant life (John 10:10). Do you agree with the idea that this is the God goal for our lives? Why or why not? Is there a goal that is missing? Can you look at your life in review and see an area where you have matured as a Christ-follower? Talking about grudges and resentments is a profoundly personal thing. Since we are all experiencing political upheaval in our country (and this may be easier to talk about in a group), how are you doing at not holding political resentment or grudges? With gentleness and kindness, take a moment to assess what you say and/or write in person, email, or social media about what you see happening around you. What is your assessment? Do you see areas for growth in the way of Christ? What grudges and resentments do you need to lay down to embrace Christian maturity and abundant life further? Tania quotes Hebrews 12:1-2 as inspiration for the work ahead of us. Which race are you running right now that these words fit well?
